An Irish bakery has banned "loud Americans" from its premises.

Staff at Peter's Place in Waterville posted a sign in the window that read: "No bus/coach or loud American's (sic), thank you."

The owner, Peter Fitzgerald, declined to be interviewed, the local radio station reported.

A reporter from the station said the owner put up the sign after too many tourists came in to use the washroom, but didn't buy anything.

The Waterville Business Association said the sign does not represent how other businesses in the tourist town feel.

Waterville is in the southwest corner of Ireland and the bakery is on the Ring of Kerry tourism route, which begins in Killarney.
