The woman filmed plucking a dead bird on Montreal's subway says she was simply getting an early start on making dinner.

The Nunatsiaq Online in Iqualiut has reported that former Nunavut resident Christina David took credit for being the bird lady on her Facebook profile page.

David, who now lives in Montreal, stated on her Facebook page that she was not eating the bird, as was initially reported.

"People in the world are making rumours," she wrote.

A YouTube video showed passengers' reactions to David's plucking. It was unclear from the video whether or not David was eating the bird.

David says she was "readying" it for dinner and "couldn't wait to go home so I can put it on the big pan with onions and mushrooms."

Montreal police told QMI Agency that they had been looking for her, and David wrote that she had been to court on Thursday. She did not indicate if she was facing any trouble with the law.
