A Florida mother has been charged after allowing her seven-year-old son to go to the park alone.

The park is about 10 minutes from their home, Nicole Gainey of Port St. Lucie told Fox.

"I'm totally dumbfounded by this whole situation," Gainey said. "Honestly didn't think I was doing anything wrong...I was letting him go play."

When her son Dominic passed a nearby school on his way to the park, an adult asked him about his mother's whereabouts. After a few more questions, Dominic ran to the park because he became scared by all the questions.

Police arrived at the park and escorted Dominic home, where they arrested his mother. Gainey is charged with child neglect.

On July 1, South Carolina mother Debra Harrell was arrested for allowing her nine-year-old daughter to play at the park while she went to her job at McDonald's.
