Funeral to be held this week for Mi'kmaq soldier killed in Iraq
FREDERICTON (CP) - A Mi'kmaq man from New Brunswick who was killed while serving with the U.S. military in Iraq will be buried in his home town on Thursday. Michael Seeley, 27, of Fredericton died on Oct. 30 when a bomb exploded near the U.S. Army vehicle he was travelling in south of Baghdad. He served with the 28th Infantry out of Fort Hood, Texas. Seeley was a graduate of Fredericton High School. He held dual Canadian and U.S. citizenship and after training with the reserves in Canada, decided to join the U.S. military. He served as a marine before joining the army. Seeley was the second Canadian-born soldier to die in Iraq in the last few weeks. Marine Sgt. Jonathan J. Simpson, a dual Canadian and U.S. citizen, was killed in Iraq during combat operations on Oct. 14, and was buried in Quebec, where he was born.
