A man whipped out a gun at his own wedding reception in Brazil and shot and killed his bride and best man and then turned the weapon on himself.
Rogerio Damascena, 29, told guests at his reception in Recife, Brazil, Saturday night that he had an announcement to make before taking out a gun and and killing new wife Renata Alexandre Costa Coelho, 25, and best man Marcelo Guimaraes, 40, reports Brazilian news organization Globo.
Then he killed himself.
Police aren't speculating on a motive for the massacre, but the bride's lawyer, Hisbelo Oliveira, told Globo the groom was the jealous type.
“He was a very jealous, suspicious person, and the motive must have been that,” the lawyer said.
Police, who are still trying to find the murder weapon, believe the attack was premeditated because of Damascena's announcement and the fact he hid a gun in his father's truck. Investigators are asking venue officials for security footage to help find the gun.
“My sister was a wonderful person who loved and wanted to be loved,” said the bride's sister, Lucia Helena Coelho. “He was happy, she was happy, the party was beautiful. His family adored her and doesn't understand this.”
