Fakhra Yunus, a Pakistani woman who was disfigured in an acid attack in 2000, jumped off a building in Rome earlier this month, killing herself.

A funeral was held Sunday after Yunus jumped from the sixth floor building on March 17, Pakistani newspaper the Express Tribune reported.

Yunus was attack by her husband, Bilal Khar, after she returned to her family following years of abuse. Khar arrived at the home and, while she was sleeping, he allegedly poured acid on her face. Despite being arrested, Khar has never been prosecuted and insists he's innocent.

Yunus was living in Italy after the attack in Karachi on May 14, 2000, and underwent treatment for several years.

The group Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) called on Pakistan's justice system to do something.

"There is a termite, which is eating our country from within; it is the feudal system," MQM leader Khushbakht Shujaat Sunday during a protest in Karachi.
