BARRIE, Ont. — One Canadian woman knows what it’s like to be rescued by Prince Charming after she fell into a crevice while hiking and was pulled out by none other than the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William.

Darlene Burton, 58, of Barrie, Ont., and her partner, Lawrence Oakley, were on a hiking tour on the Welsh island of Anglesey when she took a tumble down a rocky incline, said Oakley’s brother-in-law Dr. Mark Jameson.

“From what I understand, the weather was bad and she fell and became pinned or trapped in a crevice,” said Jameson from his home in Charlottesville, Virginia, Tuesday night.

“He (Lawrence) had to leave her alone, because he couldn’t move her for fear he’d injure her further, so he went up the coastline and found some fishermen with a cellphone who called the RAF.”

A crew, including Prince William - a Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot - was called in from RAF Valley, the training station on Anglesey where the prince’s squadron is headquartered, and where he and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, make their home.

William piloted an RAF Sea King helicopter to the woman’s location, and she was winched out of the crevice and into the chopper, then flown to hospital.

“We’re still waiting for the definitive information to come in, but it sounds like she has at least a couple of fractures in her tibia,” Jameson said of Burton’s condition. “But she’s safe and stable and that’s what counts.”

Jameson’s wife, Patti Oakley Jameson, wrote on Bruton’s Facebook wall, “My brother Lawrence and Darlene were the rescued hikers after Darlene took a fall. This ends their walking holiday in Wales but they did get a private ride in Prince William’s helicopter. She was in a lot of pain but having the prince rescue her had to ease the pain somewhat!”

She’s the second person to be rescued by the prince in the past week.

William and his crew also came to the aid of 16-year-old girl who’d gotten caught in the current in the sea off Anglesey last Thursday.
