The White House has bowed to public pressure and released the recipes for two of the beers brewed on site.

"With public excitement about White House beer fermenting such a buzz, we decided we better hop right to it," chef Sam Kass wrote on the White House blog Saturday afternoon.

He said U.S. President Barack Obama bought a home brewing kit for kitchen staff after being inspired by home brewers from across the country.

"After the few first drafts we landed on some great recipes that came from a local brew shop. We received some tips from a couple of home brewers who work in the White House who helped us amend it and make it our own. To be honest, we were surprised that the beer turned out so well since none of us had brewed beer before," Kass wrote.

It's believed the White House Honey Brown Ale is the first alcohol brewed or distilled on the White House grounds.

George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon, and Thomas Jefferson made wine, but not on the White House grounds.

The White House released the recipes for the honey brown ale and a honey porter. Both are brewed with honey collected at the White House.

The recipe for the newest beer - a honey blonde brewed this summer - remains a mystery.

The move comes after a petition was cirrculated calling on the White House to reveal the recipe.
