A Massachusetts woman says her cat was mistakenly euthanized by the vet rather than receiving treatment for fleas.

Colleen Conlon said her son took her eight-year-old cat, Lady, to the Broadway Animal Hospital in Gardner last week, and a paperwork mix-up resulted in the pet being put down.

Conlon said her son, Jesse Conlon, thought it was a cruel joke when he asked the vet if Lady was done getting her flea bath and the doctor responded: "You want the bodies?"

"I don't think there was any malicious intent, but I do think it was negligent," Conlon told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

Conlon said she filed a complaint with the attorney general's office.
