Dog abandoned by owner for being 'gay'
By QMI Agency

Elton. (Facebook)

A male dog named Elton was dropped off at a rabies control shelter in Tennessee because his owner felt that he was gay, says an anti-pet euthanasia Facebook group.

Jackson TN Euthanasia posted he was signed over “Not (because) he’s mean or (because) he tears things up, but because... His owner says he’s gay!”

The owner chose to disown Elton because he "hunched" another male dog, the post writes.

Jackson TN Euthanasia’s aims to find homes for dogs in kill shelters. The post has nearly 5,000 shares so far and has sparked media attention.

However, the lucky pup has since been adopted by a veterinary tech named Stephanie Fryns, ABC reports. Fryns said she saw Elton on an adoption site and had planned to take him home before she saw the post on Facebook.

Debate on whether or not animals can have sexual preference is not new. In 2009, The Telegraph reported a study that found homosexual behaviour in albatross females when there was a shortage of males. The study also found the same in penguins and locusts.

Two infamous gay penguins reside in the Toronto Zoo. Buddy and Pedro were separated to mate with females but have since been reunited as partners.
