A 11-year-old cancer survivor caught fire in an Oregon hospital, and her father suspects that hand sanitizer could be responsible.
Ireland Lane was at the Doernbecher Children's Hospital earlier this month after she hit her head at school and lost consciousness, The Oregonian reports.
On Feb. 2, she ran from her hospital room screaming after the front of her T-shirt caught fire, and investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire and whether a mix of flammable hand sanitizer and static electricity is the culprit.
Her father Stephen Lane said she doesn't remember the fire.
"She still has bad dreams, but she doesn't recall the actual incident, which, from my perspective, is very good," he told the Oregonian.
The girl was the only one who saw the fire, but her father said investigators told him the wall-mounted alcohol-based hand sanitizer dispenser is the only thing that makes sense as a cause.
