'Kick Ass Mall Cop' arrested

Mall cop fired

Atlanta mall cop Darien Long, who shot to fame after a video in which Tasered an unruly woman went viral, has been arrested.

Long was taken into custody Thursday after he got into a fight with a shopper at Atlanta’s Metro Mall.

Long claimed he tackled a man whom he had already ejected from the mall earlier in the day. After he couldn’t produce a citation, police took him into custody and charged him with battery.

Erica Webster told WSBTV that Long got into an altercation with a man outside the mall and, after he looked to be on the losing end of the fight, tried to take out his Taser.

“That’s why he was trying to tase him... the boy was getting the best of the security guard,” she said.

He was granted bail on Friday and is due back in court next month.

Long, who became known as Atlanta’s “Kick Ass Mall Cop,” gained international attention after a series of confrontational videos surfaced on YouTube. The clips, shot with a camera attached to his chest, show Long evicting alleged drug dealers, breaking up fights and, in two instances, Tasering confrontational shoppers.

Fans rallied around Long, raising $23,000 for the mall cop so he could get better gear.

Earlier this week, Long revealed that he had been let go by the Metro Mall.

He said his dismissal was the result of a lot of things, including his sudden fame.

"It's not one thing, it's all things."
