A father in Orlando, Fla., says his nine-year-old son took a handgun, knife and sledgehammer to school to recreate a scene from the video game Minecraft.
"All his games are going in the garbage," the father told WFTV 9, saying his son played the video game "every day for about an hour."
The only problem, which people commenting on the television station's website point out, is Minecraft doesn't involve weapons. The game allows players to build items out of blocks. The initial goal is to gather resources and build structures to protect your character from nocturnal monsters.
The nine-year-old is facing three felony charges after allegedly taking the weapons to school in his backpack on Thursday. The handgun, which was removed from his father's drawer, was not operational, the father said.
The boy was released to the care of his parents on the condition he doesn't have access to any weapons.
