Police have removed a seven-year-old blond girl from a Roma couple in Ireland, local media report.

It is a case very similar to that of Maria, a little girl found in a Roma camp in Greece with a couple who aren't her parents.

Irish police were called to a Dublin home Monday afternoon where the couple claimed the girl is their daughter and that she had been born in 2006, the Irish Independent newspaper reported.

But police couldn't find the girl's birth certificate or any proof she belongs to the couple. Officers reportedly discussed with experts the possibility a Roma couple could give birth to a blond-haired, blue-eyed girl before she was removed from their care.

In Greece, a Roma couple argued Monday a little four-year-old girl found in their care had been given to them by the girl's mother.

"It was an adoption that was not exactly legal but took place with the mother's consent," Constantinos Katsavos, one of the lawyers representing the 39-year-old man, told reporters, Reuters reported.

Dubbed by Greek media as the "blond angel," Maria was found with the couple in a Roma camp in central Greece last week. DNA testing showed the couple aren't her biological parents.
