Folks in Craigsville, Va., are outraged after a local boy dressed as a member of the Ku Klux Klan for Halloween.
The pictures of the trick-or-treating seven-year-old Klansman first appeared on location news station WHSV's Facebook page, prompting locals to express their disapproval.
"I just think it's really sad that a kid is being taught that. That young, because they don't know any better. You don't hear that much about it," Wendi Sprouse said.
But the boy's mom, Jessica Black, defended the decision, calling the costume a family tradition and singing the praises of the white supremacist group.
"My brother has when he was in kindergarten and when he was 13," Black told WHSV. "It's supposed to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that. That's what the KKK stands for. The KKK every year, raises money to donate to the St. Jude's."
Asked why he chose the costume, the boy said: "It was cool."
