OTTAWA — Call it a Russian revolution.

A journalist on Russia's government-funded TV news channel — a channel beamed into millions of Canadian homes — quit live on air this week to protest what she called her station's "whitewashes" of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

News anchor Liz Wahl used her podium in front of the cameras of RT (Russia Today) to denounce the network for failing to tell the truth about the Russian invasion in Crimea.

RT, found in popular channel bundles from TV providers across Canada, has played a central role for Moscow since Russian military forces invaded Crimea, firing back at Western governments like Canada and the U.S. with propaganda-like news stories and analysis that criticize the West and validate Putin's view of the crisis.
