A British judge has ruled a five-month-old baby who hasn't been named by his parents must be put up for adoption, the Telegraph reports.

"I truly think that it is emotionally harmful not to give a child a name," Judge Maureen Parker said.

The family court judge heard the father of the boy had assaulted one social worker and threatened to kill another. The court was told he was frustrated by social service's attempts to help with the child.

The mother has a learning difficulty and took the father's advice to not name the child, the judge said.

The couple's two-year-old son was taken into care last year after another judge was concerned about the father's behaviour with social workers.

Parker called it a "terribly sad case" because it's clear the parents "love each of their sons, their boys, from the bottom of their hearts."
