Scientists have warned of an "ecological disaster" on Madagascar after the Asian common toad invaded the isolated island.

The toads were first seen on the island in March, but experts fear that its arrival could wreck the specially balanced fauna.

There is now a call for the amphibians to be removed before any damage is done.

A report on the issue says: "It's worrying because Madagascar has amazing endemic biodiversity - plants, animals and amphibians that are found nowhere else. And this one species has the propensity to damage that."
