Eight-year-old Claudia Burkill was diagnosed in June 2011 and given six weeks to live. Now she is believed to be the first child to beat metastatic pineoblastoma.

On a Facebook page called Claudia's Cause, the girl's mother said she received a phone call Saturday evening about recent testing. The doctor told her the results show there is no longer a tumour in Claudia's brain and the little girl is no longer terminally ill.

2. Kings were close, but no cup yet.

The New York Rangers stripped the L.A. Kings of what could've been their crowning cup moment last night, bringing the series 3-1 for the Kings.

It was a close battle, how close? Not once, but twice there were pucks sitting on the goal line behind a Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. First a shot by Alec Martinez didn’t cross the line in the first period and then Derek Stepan pushed a puck on the line underneath Lundqvist in the dying minutes.

“It happens,” said Kings captain Dustin Brown.

3. Castrated cat on the mend

One of Infinite WOOFS Animal Rescue Society volunteers found a cat as a stray and looked for about a week for his home. In the last day his testicles started to swell and it was evident that he was in pain. This cat has now been named Chronos, and is now under infinite WOOFS care.

A volunteer with Infinite WOOFS Animal Rescue Society in Edmonton had noticed a well-groomed cat hanging around her house for a week. The volunteer then noticed the feline, now named Chronos, had red and swollen testicles and was in distress.

The cat is now on the mend, but the rescuers are looking for his owners.

4. A dumb throwback

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber To

Movie bosses and fans probably won't insult the Dumb and Dumber To sequel, instead they're embracing it. Jim Carrey stopped by the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to debut the trailer for the sequel to the Farrelly Brothers’ 1994 classic comedy.

The film, which also stars Jeff Daniels, sees the pair of knuckleheads in search of Harry Dunne’s (Daniels) long lost daughter in the hope of gaining a new kidney.

5. Bad luck or bad police work?

A Louisiana woman spent five weeks in a northern Florida jail after being wrongly arrested - twice.

Ashley Nicole Chiasson, a 28-year-old single mother, was mistaken for a woman with the same first and last name who was wanted by local authorities in Clay County, near Jacksonville, Florida, for financial crimes. She spent five weeks in a northern Florida jail.

She is three years younger and at least five inches shorter than the woman that authorities sought, attorney Andrew Bonderud said in a letter to the Clay County Sheriff's Office this week announcing intent to sue. His client also has a different middle name.

"This is not mere negligence," Bonderud said. "This is recklessness."
