A man shocked customers at a New York City McDonald's Tuesday when he walked in talking on his cellphone with a kitchen knife stuck in his back.

The back of the man's shirt was covered in blood and witness Tromaine Yancey told CBS he was telling the person on the phone "it might be the last time he's speaking to them."

Customers in the restaurant in Queens immediately went to help the man to ensure he did not fall on his back before paramedics could get there.

A nearby food vendor said the man had been stabbed during a dispute. Gary Baumgarten said the man had been involved in an argument with two other men on Monday, then on Tuesday he was stabbed.

"They came and stabbed him," Baumgarten said.

The man was in serious condition in hospital. Police are investigating.
