60 girls reportedly escape Boko Haram

Sixty-three women and girls who were kidnapped June 18 have escaped their Boko Haram captors and returned to their village in Nigeria, according to media reports.

The women and children were among the hundreds taken captive this year by the suspected Islamist militant group, which seeks to establish a fundamentalist Islamic state in the country’s north.

More than 200 schoolgirls abducted in April are still being held captive by the militants.
