1. Germany wins World Cup

The Germans were victorious over Argentina yesterday in a match that was settled in a single goal in extra time.

2. Vatican denies pope's comments

The Vatican is distancing itself from an interview in which the pope is reported to have said that about 2% of Catholic clergy are pedophiles.

Pope Francis also reportedly called sexual abuse a "leprosy in our house."

A statement from the Vatican contested several parts of the interview, and noted that Eugenio Scalfari, 90, does not typically take notes or record his interviews with public figures.

3. Anniversary of Monteith’s death

Yesterday marked a year since the death of Glee star Cory Monteith, 31, who was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room.

"I still miss him very much and I still have the empty feeling inside,” his father told ET Canada. Cory was a likeable young man and if he was in the room, you'd be smiling. He enjoyed life. That's why I was so shocked about the outcome of everything."


4. Man survives lightning strike

A Calgary man and his pacer survived getting struck by lightning during an ultra-marathon in Colorado.

"Right when we hit the summit, we heard a huge crack and a flash of light and both of us got knocked to the ground," said Adam Campbell.

Amazingly, he managed to finish third in the race.
