A Michigan jail has given inmates black-and-white-striped jumpsuits to wear while incarcerated because all orange is too cool.

Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel told MLive.com that television shows like Orange is the New Black have some people thinking it's cool to look like an inmate and he has seen people wearing orange jumpsuits in public, including at the mall.

"It's a concern because we do have our inmates out sometimes doing work in the public, and I don't want anyone to confuse them or have them walk away," Federspiel said. "We decided that the black-and-white stripes would be the best way to go because it signifies 'jail inmate.'"

The new jumpsuits cost just under $12 each.

Federspiel said many inmates have been "very verbal" in their dislike of the new attire.

"A lot of them have said, 'We don't like wearing black-and-white stripes.' And my response is, 'Too bad. Don't come to jail.'"
