Canadian relief agencies

Aid agencies accepting donations for relief operations in Southeast Asia:

  • The Salvation Army Canada: at 1-800-725-2769 or at Salvation Army.ca

  • Canadian Red Cross: Red Cross; phone 1-800-418-1111 or local offices. A 24-hour toll-free line accepts Visa and MasterCard. Make cheques out to the Canadian Red Cross, earmarked "South East Asia Earthquake and Tidal Wave Relief" and mail to the Canadian Red Cross National Office, 170 Metcalfe St., Suite 300, Ottawa, K2P 2P2.

  • Toronto Police have teamed up with the Red Cross and the South and Southwest Asian Consultative Committees to provide cash donation boxes at all city police stations.

  • Oxfam: Donations for Asian Earthquake/Floods Relief; Oxfam; or 1-800-466-9326.

  • United Jewish Appeal (UJA) Federation of Greater Toronto is requesting cheques made out to the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund c/o UJA Federation. Mail to UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, 4600 Bathurst St., M2R 3V2. Starting tomorrow, donations can be made via its Web site, JewishToronto or by calling 416-631-5705.

  • Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP): 1-888-664-3387. Mail cheques marked "Tidal Wave Disaster" to Development and Peace, 5633 Sherbrooke St. E., Montreal, Que., H1N 1A3.
